The geographic and historical heart of Friuli, this area holds a number of towns with medieval charm that still express their past in their architecture and traditional festivals, while an eco-museum preserves and enhances the material and cultural heritage of the entire area under consideration.
Located at the foothills of the Julian Pre-Alps, the municipality of Gemona is the largest in this territory and represents one of the most beautiful historical localities in Friuli Venezia Giulia.
Also typically medieval is the small town of Venzone, entirely surrounded by mighty walls. And then how can we fail to mention the town of butterflies, Bordano, a true living and harmoniously colored museum. Also part of the Gemona Mountain Community are the towns of Montenars and Trasaghis and Artegna small pearls nestled in unique and enchanting landscapes.
Note: the Gemona area is not yet certified sustainable according to the international GSTC (Global Sustainable Tourism Council) criteria, but is being evaluated by the certifying body in the near future.
