Directions

From the starting point in Via Bamberga, near the Tarvisio-Boscoverde railway station, follow a dirt road through the uphill coniferous forest that quickly leads to the monument dedicated to the Austrian soldiers who fell during the Napoleonic campaigns. This monument is located on a small relief on the edge of the gorge of the Slizza Torrent. From here, a signposted path, equipped with steps, handrails and fences, descends steeply through the forest with small hairpin bends to the bank of the Slizza stream, reaching a wide bend. The trail continues up the gorge on the right side of the Slizza stream, with spectacular footbridges built overhanging the water, making it easier to overcome the more exposed rocky sections. Already in this first part of the route, you can admire the limestone rocks eroded by the water, a variety of vegetation and the striking green colour of the torrent's waters. After passing the first set of footbridges, the path descends slightly to the bank of the stream and then ascends until it meets a tunnel. After passing this tunnel, a wooden staircase leads to a rocky spur where there is a stele dedicated to Count Karl d'Arco Zinneberg. From this point, it is possible to admire the iron railway bridge of the old Tarvisio-Ljubljana line, which stands 63 metres above the water level and stretches for a length equal to its height. After the descent along the bank, passing through a large cave, one ascends via an iron and wooden staircase to the last set of footbridges. At the end of these, the route climbs through the forest to a viewpoint. With a final ascent through the forest, you reach the cycle path and soon return to the starting point.
