TerraRossa Peak from the Brazzà Hut
This panoramic, sunny and rocky peak located exactly halfway up the chain of the Jôf di Montasio is a favourite destination for many excursionists who climb the plateau of the Piani del Montasio and who want to get a taste of the extraordinary beauty of the Julian Alps with a moderately easy excursion. The route to climb it follows a southern slope with a south-westerly orientation, and this exposure favours a comfortable walk even in the spring and autumn seasons. The itinerary, which has as its base and foothold the small and perched Rifugio di Brazzà, named after the Friulian mountaineering pioneer Giacomo di Brazzà and lovingly run by the Cecon family, zigzags among limestone rocks on a former military mule track along which sure footing and attention are required. In fact, it is easy to get distracted by the ubiquitous ibexes that move nonchalantly up and down the rocks and clods of earth, at times even encroaching on the easy uphill route. As you ascend, you gain more and more views and perspectives, with the suggestion of the northern slopes of the Monte Canin chain and, once on the summit, with the view to the north towards the suggestive basin of Spragna and Jôf Fuart.

Directions
From the Piani del Montasio car park (1502 m), climb up through the pastures and pasture buildings towards the Brazzà hut (1660 m) following a dirt track (30 minutes). From the hut, head northwards directly towards the foot of the rocky ramparts, ignoring the path that crosses to the left near the hut, and continuing instead along the track of the old wartime mule-track that zigzags up the southern walls of the Cima di Terra Rossa between the Forca de Lis Sieris and the rocky cirque of the Forca del Palone. The mule track climbs the south-western slope of the relief with about twenty hairpin bends, marking the rhythm of the ascent somewhat monotonously but also offering the possibility of climbing gradually. Approximately one hundred and fifty metres from the summit, leave the mule track, which continues halfway up the slope towards the right in the direction of Forca de Lis Sieris, and take the path to the left, which, amidst rocks, leads to the main ridge and shortly to the summit (2420m, 2.30 - 3 hours)
